How to Revive Teammates

How to revive teammates in Darkest Hours: hold E interaction, downed timer, positioning, Riot Shield synergy, and anti-wipe tactics.

Downed State Explained

When health reaches zero the first time in a trial, you enter the downed state instead of dying. A timer counts down—if it expires, you die permanently until the next trial. Downed players show a red icon above their body visible to teammates, with vignette and bar UI from the downed player's perspective. Most entities stop targeting downed players, but environmental kill zones still apply.

After revival, you return with health but another downed event in the same trial is fatal. Play carefully post-revive; do not immediately sprint into the same entity that downed you.

Revive Interaction

Hold E near a downed teammate to revive. The channel takes several seconds and leaves the reviver vulnerable. Interrupting mechanics vary by entity—some ignore revivers, others can still down them with area attacks. Read controls for default bindings.

Standard procedure: one player watches for entity approach, one revives, optional third uses Riot Shield facing the threat direction. Metal Bat stun can buy extra channel time against single chasers like Streamer or Bob.

When to Revive vs Extract

During objective trials, revives usually worth the time—four players complete Capture and Collect faster. During Escape Trial, calculate whether the downed player's distance from portal justifies the channel. Sometimes two extractions beat a double wipe attempting a risky revive in portal camp.

Infection special trials punish deaths with extra entity spawns—revive quickly to prevent snowballing. Bloodbath stacks may make revives impossible; call abort early. See Last Prisoner Standing when only one player remains alive.

Team Roles and Communication

Assign a dedicated medic role in competitive squads—player with Riot Shield and healing items stays mid-formation. Call "reviving [name]" on voice chat so others do not scatter. After revive, give the recovered player a moment to orient before sprinting.

Combine revive discipline with objective timing and defensive items. Track downed movement changes in patch notes—v0.1.x increased downed crawl mobility.
